Morning traffic updates for Thursday, August 23

TAMPA - MANATEE COUNTY: Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on southbound I-75, just north of University Parkway/Exit 213, around 3 AM. According to the initial FHP report, Rebecca Brown, 36, of Tampa was standing on the side of I-75 north of University Parkway, after her vehicle - a 2007 BMW - spun out and became stuck on the shoulder of the interstate. Curt Lux, 60, of Port Richey was driving a tanker southbound on I-75, and the right side of the vehicle clipped Brown, killing her.

TAMPA: HCSO investigating an accident involving a school bus on the NW side of Tampa. A school bus, stopped at the railroad crossing south of Linebaugh, was rear-ended by a car that had been hit by another vehicle. One of the vehicles briefly caught fire. There are no reports of injuries to any students. At least one driver was hurt and taken to the hospital.

8:24 -- I-75 NEW TAMPA: Stop-and-go southbound from the Apex to Fowler. Average speed near Bruce B Downs of 16mph.

8:20 -- I-75 TAMPA: Crash on right shoulder northbound near Progress Blvd/mile marker 253. Fire Dept on scene but no delays.

8:17 -- ST. PETERSBURG: EMS responding to crash on 4th St N & 38th Ave

8:00 -- TAMPA - WESTCHASE UPDATE: All lanes open SB Sheldon Rd at RR crossing south of Linebaugh.

7:57 -- ST. PETE/PINELLAS PARK UPDATE: NB US-19/34th St N BLOCKED near 62nd Ave. Detour: Haines Rd or 49th St to go northbound.

7:54 -- I-4 TAMPA: Crash on outside shoulder, westbound I-4 near MLK, past the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amp.

7:40 -- I-275 ST. PETERSBURG: Congestion northbound I-275 near 22nd Ave S. per my @FL_511 cameras.

7:39 -- I-275 TAMPA: Crash reported southbound between Hillsborough & MLK. DELAYS back to Bearss Ave.

7:30 -- TAMPA - WESTCHASE UPDATE: 1 lane now open, SB Sheldon Rd at the RR crossing south of Linebaugh. School bus hit there.

7:25 -- N TAMPA: Crash with injuries @ Ehrlich Rd & Turner Rd. Stand by for a pic.

7:15 -- I-75 TAMPA: S-L-O-W northbound approaching I-4. Crash reported in the area.

7:13 -- ST. PETERSBURG UPDATE: Roadblock on NB US-19/34th St N @ 62nd Ave. You may want to scoot over to Haines Rd to get to 19.

7:11 -- TAMPA/WESTCHASE UPDATE: SB Sheldon Rd blocked by school bus ax at RR xing south of Linebaugh. Use Wilsky. Kids are OK.

7:08 -- ST. PETERSBURG: EMS working crash on 34th St N & 62nd Ave.

7:02 -- HILLSBOROUGH CO - DOVER: Accident with roadblock on SB McIntosh Rd south of I-4.

7:00 -- TAMPA -- SCHOOL BUS CRASH UPDATE: Someone ran into vehicle that was stopped at RR xing on SB Sheldon near Linebaugh. No kids hurt.

6:59 -- TAMPA: School bus involved accident on SB Sheldon Rd between Waters & Linebaugh. Sending chopper there now.

6:58 -- I-4 TAMPA: Crash EB past the I-275 junction approaching Ybor exit. Right lane blocked. Slowing NB I-275 traffic.

6:55 -- I-275 TAMPA: Couple cars on shoulder of SB I-275 past Fowler. Very slow there!

6:43 -- E TAMPA UPDATE: Pedestrian hit on Hillsborough. EB Hillsborough closed @ 23rd St. Traffic diverted at 19th St.

6:40 -- I-275 TAMPA: Southbound traffic is jamming up out of N. Tampa. It's really slow @ Busch Blvd.

6:37 -- TAMPA: Accident reported at Hillsborough Ave & 22nd St per Tampa Fire/rescue

6:16 -- VALRICO: Crash reported at SR-60 & St. Cloud Ave.

5:59 -- WESLEY CHAPEL: Crash on Wesley Chapel Blvd/SR-54 north of Grand Oaks at Pet Ln.

5:35 -- I-275 ST. PETE UPDATE: Still no sign of a crash along I-275 near 54th Ave N, though I did see flashing lights searching for ax.

5:20 -- I-275 ST. PETERSBURG: Crash reported southbound near 54th Ave N. No sign of it yet on my traffic cams. Standby for updates.

5:12 AM -- ST. PETERSBURG: Hazmat crews helping clean up gas spill at site of earlier crash near 83rd Ave N & 4th St.

5:11 AM -- I-75 MANATEE CO: FHP urges caution near I-75 and SR-64 in Bradenton due to high water in the area. No lane closures reported at this time.
