TAMPA - A Tampa woman is charged with DUI after she crashed Friday into a patrol car parked in a construction zone.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Sgt. Debbie Simmons, 47, was parked on the westbound I-4 exit ramp to northbound I-275 with the car's emergency lights activated. She was there to prevent traffic from exiting.
Florida Department of Transportation workers were pacing traffic, or slowing vehicles to between 10 and 15 mph, on northbound I-275 while crews worked to install a sign structure over the interstate.
Just before 3:00 a.m., Nedra Shical Deardra Miller, 29, of Tampa, failed to stop on the exit ramp, and hit the rear of the patrol car.
Sgt. Simmons has taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries.
