EMS uses jaws of life to extricate a driver who slammed into the back of slow-moving semi

TAMPA - Tampa Police are reconstructing the scene of a crash Wednesday morning that trapped a driver in his car. TPD says a semi tractor trailer with mechanical difficulties was traveling southbound on 22nd Street with its flashers on when the driver of a Mazda rear-ended the truck. Tampa Fire Rescue extricated the victim from the vehicle and was transported to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition. The drivers of both vehicles haven't been identified yet.

6:41 -- I-4 TAMPA: Accident reported westbound between I-75 and US-301. Checking traffic cams now. Getting busy, but no delays yet.

6:28 -- I-275 TAMPA: Southbound traffic already getting busy out of N Tampa. Expect to tap brakes south of Bearss.

6:24 -- I-4 UPDATE: Crash in Hillsborough Co is eastbound near MM 23/Son Keen Rd. On right shoulder. No delays.

6:13 -- I-4 HILLSBOROUGH CO: Crash reported WB near Paul Buchman Hwy. I'm not seeing any issues via FDOT cams, but will keep you posted.
