TAMPA, Fla. - We’ll, the Glazer’s stealth bomber has hit again.
Missing their target with Oregon head coach Chip Kelly, they rerouted and headed to New Jersey to land Rutgers head cheese Greg Schiano.
Yep. Greg Schiano.
I sure hope the bottom line in the wins/loss column doesn’t dictate his success with the Bucs.
Schiano was 68-67 as head poobah up in Piscataway, NJ.
His first few years were forgettable, the final six or so were decent, with one year going 11 and 2 (2206).
Apparently, the Bucs made numerous calls to various NFL people, one of which was reportedly Bill Belichick.
Bill gave the Bucs a glowing report on Schiano.
Schiano has limited NFL experience, having opened and closed his pro career with the Chicago Bears as defensive assistant for two years, and then the third year he was promoted to defensive backs coach.
Is this sounding familiar? A guy from Jersey. Defensive backs coach. Maybe Schiano’s middle name is Morris.
Enough of the sarcasm.
From Chicago, he went back into the college ranks and stayed there, with trips to Miami and Rutgers.
The last time I crossed paths with Schiano was in the 2007 when RB Ray Rice ran all over the USF Bulls the week they became #2 in the country.
Oh, and by the way, Rice is an unrestricted free agent and loves Schiano.
Could the Bucs use Rice? @!#&$ yes!
But forget it. If the Ravens don’t throw the franchise tag on this guy the entire Baltimore front office will be Baker acted.
Let’s forget about dream land. Let’s talk reality.
The one and only question remaining is—what will his staff look like?
That will be the true test.
We’ll talk again.
