TAMPA - Cheaters not welcomed, at least for now.
The Baseball Writers of America shunned the likes of Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa.
Not one received the required 75% of the vote to be inducted.
Nor did first-time candidates Craig Biggio, Mike Piazza and Curt Shilling.
Performance enhancing drugs (PEDS) buried Bonds, Clemens and Sosa's chances.
Whether one admitted or was suspected of using the drug, they got X'ed out.
I'm sure as time goes on Bonds, Clemens and Sosa will get in. Clemens deserve to.
Clemens, in my mind was HOF material before he screwed up.
However, I don't have a vote.
But I do have a voice.
Put them in Cooperstown, in a separate wing or annex. Explain the reasoning behind it.
But first ask the players if they don't mind going in the "asterisk" room. How many would say "no problem."
While they're at it, let's add Pete Rose's name to the eligible list.
