South Korea's Ki Bo-bae has won the Olympic gold medal in the women's individual archery after Mexico's Aida Roman failed in a tense shoot-off for the title.

With the scores at 5-5 in sets, Ki had only managed a nine in the shoot-off. With Roman only needing to hit the yellow center ring, she also shot a nine and lost when her arrow was farther away from the target than Ki's.

The gold is South Korea's second in the archery competition at the London Olympics.

Roman's silver was the second medal of the day for Mexico after 18-year-old teammate Marian Avitia beat American veteran Khatuna Lorig 6-2 in the bronze match.
