JAPAN - As horror stories pour in about the lives lost in the devastating tsunami, one lucky man found floating 10 miles off of Japan’s northeastern coast lives to tell how he survived, Time.com reports.

Hiromitsu Shinkawa, 60, said that he and his wife were gathering there belongings after the earthquake in Japan when the tsunami came.

In that instant, he lost his house and his wife Friday morning as they were swept away in the tsunami.

Shinkawa, however, managed to stay alive during the disaster, clinging on to his floating roof for two days.
"Several helicopters and ships passed by, but none of them noticed me," he said.

He even waved a red flag, but failed to call attention to himself.

Fortunately he was spotted in time to save his life, and Shinkawa was brought to safety.
