GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida has earned a dubious distinction--- a new report from the University of Florida says shark attacks in the U.S. have reached their highest level in more than a decade.

That study says there were 53 recorded shark attacks last year in America, the most since 2000.

Florida led the way with 26 attacks.

Ten were in Hawaii,  and California and South Carolina tied for the third with five attacks each.

Of all the U.S. attacks last year, only one in California was deadly.
