TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Two unions that represent state prison health workers are suing over a proposed handover of inmate health services to private companies.

The unions filed suit on Tuesday in Leon County against the Florida Department of Corrections. Their complaint says privatization wrongly threatens the jobs of their members. They include doctors and other health care professionals.

The inmate health privatization directive was put in last year's state budget. The suit asks the court to declare the move unconstitutional.

A judge ruled last year that a plan to privatize the overall running of prisons is unconstitutional because it was put in the budget and not passed as a separate law.

Another union representing Florida's prison nurses filed a similar suit last month.
