MIAMI - Tropical Storm Leslie packed hurricane force winds when it made landfall Tuesday morning in Newfoundland.

Winds at the St. John's airport reached 81 mph and an offshore bouy recorded waves of more than 30 feet.  Widespread power outages were reported.

There was no immediate word on damage.

Another tropical storm, Michael, is quickly weakening in the central Atlantic and poses no threat to land.

And a disturbance in the tropical Atlantic is expected to be upgraded to a depression sometime today. It is moving to the west-northwest at 15 mph.

Current computer models show the system eventually making a turn to the north, away from the US.

If it develops into a storm, it will be named Nadine.
