FT. LAUDERDALE - Rep. Jennifer Carroll, R-Fleming Island, a three-term state House member and the first black woman Republican ever elected to the Legislature, is gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott's running mate.
The announcement was made this morning.
Carroll, 51, is a native of Trinidad, a 20-year U.S. Navy Veteran and has three children, among them Miami Dolphins rookie cornerback Nolan Carroll II.
During the administration of Former Gov. Jeb Bush, Carroll served as the Executive Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
"Rick and I share core conservative principles like lower taxes, less regulation, and smaller government. I look forward to campaigning with Rick against Alex Sink, Rod Smith and their liberal agenda," Carroll said in a written statement.
She's scheduled to appear with Scott in Tampa later today.
