LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The revamped "Star Tours" ride debuted Friday at Disney Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. Star Wars creator George Lucas was on hand for the grand re-opening celebration.
The new ride is technically far-and-away better than the original ride which arrived at Disney World in the late 1980's. The video display is in crisp high definition and presented in 3-D.
The updated Star Tours takes visitors on a sightseeing tour of six different planets in the Star Wars universe, but not all at the same time. The storyline the rider experiences is random. In fact, there are 54 different possible story combinations.
Anthony Daniels returns to lend his voice to C-3PO who will be your starspeeder pilot during your adventure.
On your journey through the galaxy you can visit the city-planet of Coruscant, skim over the frozen wasteland of Hoth, watch podracing on Tatooine, dive through the underwaters of Naboo or fight at the Death Star.
St. Petersburg Times pop music critic got the opportunity to ride Star Tours during a sneak preview on Thursday. He then got the interview of a geek's lifetime when he spoke to Daniels about Star Tours.
