Mission accomplished: NASA's final Atlantis space shuttle lift-off successful

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. - The NASA space shuttle Atlantis has successfully launched into outer space for the last time.

Despite threatening weather, the final flight launched at approximately 11:29 a.m., three minutes later that originally planned, putting an end to the 30-year space program.
