The parents said they noticed the toddler wasn’t inside their Key Largo home at 11:30 p.m. and they searched for him for half an hour before they called the cops.

Twenty minutes after calling the authorities, the child was found lying in the median of the US 1 highway near mile marker 99.

The child was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

A driver with front end damage riding near mile marker 23 was pulled over and the driver said he thought he may have hit something near milemarker 99.

Officials are investigating the crash.
