LAKE WORTH, Fla. - A deputy-involved shooting occurred early Tuesday morning in Lake Worth.
Palm Beach County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at about 2:25 a.m. to the 1400 block of North J. Street.
The man that called 911 told police that he was in fear of his life because the woman was trying to stab him and he was trying to get a 3-year-old child away from her.
When deputies arrived they encountered a woman who was threatening her family with a butcher knife about 8 inches long, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.
The man and woman came out the front door together with the woman brandishing the knife. Deputies say the woman had ahold of the man's shirt in one hand and the knife in the other.
The deputies told her to drop the knife.
"It was apparent that she was in the process of going to stab him," said Sheriff Bradshaw. "The deputies fired at her, at which time she fell to the ground on the spot."
She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The man and child were not injured. The child is currently with child services.
"It's very clear that if the deputies had not taken that action that they did right there on the spot that she would have stabbed him," said Sheriff Bradshaw.
This story will be updated as more details become available.
