PALM COAST, Fla. - A Palm Coast man who used root beer to waterboard his girlfriend while threatening to kill her has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel .

Major Harris III, 32, poured root beer in his girlfriend's nose and throat until she choked.

In addition, investigators say Harris grabbed her by the throat and put a gun to her eye.

The crime occurred in November 2010.  Harris attacked the woman at his Flagler County home.  He then forced her and her two children into a car and traveled to Volusia County where the woman escaped and flagged down a police officer.

Harris, who has a lengthy record, has been in prison since 2010 on a weapons violation.
