BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - A Lee County politician is finding his face showing up in the number one most unusual place you can think of -- urinal cakes.
Pat McCourt is a former Bonita Springs city councilman who is now a candidate for the Fire Rescue District Board. Lately, workers at various businesses throughout the city have found photos of McCourt on urinal mints in their restrooms.
A group called Citizens against Destruction has claimed responsibility for selling the sanitary pucks bearing McCourt's picture.
McCourt told the Naples News the group accuses him of wanting to shut down the fire district based on an article he posted on a conservative political website.
According to officials, no one from the group ever asked the businesses permission to place the political mints in the urinals.
"One of our regulars walked out (of the restroom) and said whose face am I peeing on?" said Angela Johnson, waitress at the Landsdowne Street Pub.
Businesses are now removing the photo cakes from urinals as soon as they find them in the belief their customers don't want to "go" on a face. Employees at the Landsdowne have removed six of the photo cakes in the last week. Unfortunately, the urinals don’t remain empty for long.
"As fast as we find them and take them out they're being replaced in a matter of hours," said Gary Maurer, general manager of the Landsdowne Street Pub.
Some people believe that it may be some p.o.'d firefighters who have bought the pucks from CAD and are placing them all over Bonita Springs because McCourt is running for a spot on the Fire Rescue District Board. However, firefighters say it's not them.
"Nope. It's not involving the firefighters, the union or the fire department," said Greg DeWitt, Firefighters Union President.
When asked, McCourt declined to comment on urinal photos prank.
In an e-mail sent to local media outlets, CAD said they are not done using urinal mints to target political figures they disagree with. The group said soon they will be selling Ron Pure cakes showing the face of the head of the conservative Bonita Taxpayer Action Group.
