SARASOTA, Fla. - Trader Joe's is gearing up to open its second Florida location.
The trendy grocery store chain will open in a former furniture store on Friday.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune (http://bit.ly/RE1dt9 ) reports company officials say more than 1,500 people applied for jobs and at least 80 percent of the employees are local residents.
Trader Joe's opened a store in Naples in February and another is planned for Gainesville by the end of the year. The chain features a majority of private label items and offers no coupons, sales or special promotions. It also buys directly from manufactures to keep costs down.
The store features Trader Joe's signature decor — a mix of cedar walls and Hawaiian motifs.
The newspaper reports wall murals feature the region's beaches, circus heritage and cultural life.
