GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Police say a 20-year-old student could face punishment after admitting that she lied about being attacked while walking on the university of Florida campus in Gainesville.

The woman told police a man with a knife tried to sexually assault her on Oct. 1 as she walked near Weimer Hall. University police said Wednesday the woman admitting to making the story up after investigators found holes in her story.

Police spokesman Brad Barber says considerable law enforcement resources were used in the investigation.

The Gainesville Sun (http://bit.ly/VFlT2C ) reports detectives are filing a sworn complaint against the woman. The Alachua County State Attorney's Office is investigating.
