TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - A spokesman says Florida Secretary of State Kurt Browning hasn't spoken to Gov. Rick Scott about resigning nor submitted a letter of resignation "at this time."

That's all Browning spokesman Chris Cate would say in response to a blog by two newspapers on Monday.

The St. Petersburg Times and Miami Herald reported a highly placed source in Tallahassee said Browning will soon step down.

There's been speculation in Pasco County, where Browning had been elections supervisor, that he would run there for school superintendent.

Browning now oversees elections statewide including the upcoming Jan. 31 presidential primary.

Gov. Charlie Crist initially appointed Browning. He retired in 2010 under a program that lets employees draw retirement benefits and a full salary. Scott reappointed him after he sat out the required six months.
