FORT MYERS, Fla. - Poll workers in Lee County are getting a little extra holiday pay.

Supervisor of Elections Sharon Harrington says she decided to add $50 to the amount each poll worker was set to receive because they had to work longer than expected during the Nov. 6 presidential election.

Patti Schreiber told the Fort Myers News-Press (http://newspr.es/UbwAdK ) she can use the extra cash. Schreiber has been a poll worker since 2009. She says she worked from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on election day.

Harrington says it's difficult to recruit poll workers and retain them. In Lee County, poll workers earn between $140 and $250.
