Homeless advocates plan to help during RNC

TAMPA, Fla. - Homeless advocates in Tampa are making plans to help those living on the streets during the Republican National Convention.
The Tampa Bay Times reports (http://bit.ly/NmlMpX) that the Salvation Army will be open throughout the day to give homeless people a place to stow their belongings. Usually the shelter is closed during the day.
City officials say they have no plans to round up the homeless during the convention that runs from Aug. 27-30.
Homeless advocates say 6,400 people were living on the streets in Tampa in 2011.
Typically, the homeless stash belongings in bushes or other hideaways. These bundles of things are at risk with an estimated 15,000 protestors on the streets and 4,000 law enforcement officers securing the area. Officials are also worried about crimes against homeless people
