WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A 14-year-old girl is being treated at a hospital with facial injuries after two pit bulls attack her in West Palm Beach.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera says the girl was walking to school Wednesday when the dogs charged at the girl. Bystanders tried to remove the dogs until a deputy arrived, who then shot the dogs. One took off and is still missing. The other dog is with animal control.

The girl was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Barbera says the dogs were kept in a fenced property and it's not immediately known how they got out.
