HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - On Tuesday, the Hillsborough County's Sheriff's Office released the results of its investigation into the drowning death of an 11-year-old special needs student in October.
Earlier in the day, the Sheriff's Office announced the investigation is closed and that no criminal charges will be filed in the October 22 death of Jennifer Caballero, a student with Down Syndrome who attended Rodgers Middle School.
Divers found her body in about 12 feet of water in a pond near the school six hours after she went missing.
After an extensive investigation, the State Attorney's Office has ruled that "no criminal charges are warranted," according to a sheriff's statement.
The Hillsborough School District is expected to conduct its own investigation.
