YBOR CITY, Fla. - UPDATE: The leaking substance turned out to be nonhazardous. Tests determined it was concentrated eucalyptus oil.
Exposure can cause asthma-like symptoms.
No one was hospitalized.
PREVIOUS REPORT: An Ybor City post office was evacuated Monday morning after employees reported a leaking package.
The call came in around 10:15 a.m. at 1900 East 12th Avenue. The employees said the package contained an unknown chemical substance. It was moved outside by one of the employees.
Fire Rescue personnel and police officers evacuated the building as a precaution.
A hazmat team was trying to determine the makeup of the liquid.
The person who came into direct contact with the package complained of some mild irritation to his hands.
After emergency crews arrived, the number of complaints, all from postal workers, climbed to 15. Some were experiencing eye irritation.
They were to be taken to Tampa General Hospital for evaluation.
