Video shows robber shooting clerk during robbery

TAMPA - Wearing a white-t-shirt and cap, a man walked into the the 29th Street Store in Tampa pointing a gun at the clerk. The suspect handed over a bag and demanded all the cash in the register.

As seen in surveillance video, the clerk hands over the draw, but as the robber jumps up on the counter, the clerk grabs for the gun.

That's when the theft turned even more violent. The suspect pulled the trigger and hit the clerk in the arm.

The man behind the counter is OK, but the robber is still on the loose. Police say this isn't the only grocery store he held up in November of last year.

Charlene Showers works at the Ponce De Leon Grocery on North 22nd street.

Police say the same robber came into her store a few days earlier. And threatened her son and cousin. Both are 15 years old.

"He would point the gun at me. He would say that if I moved, if I made any false moves, he would shoot the kids," said Showers.

Just before Thanksgiving, police say the suspect was at it again. They say he robbed Vince's Grocery on North Rome Avenue. This time investigators say another man waited outside as a look-out.

Showers hopes they catch the suspects soon. But having a gun pointed at her has changed the way she does business.

"We don't even open the service window, if we don't know who you are. If you are not a regular, and I don't know you, I won't open the window and serve you. I'll tell you I'm closed," said Showers.
