TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - She wasn't planning on moving out of her apartment, but a USF student is just too scared to stay.
"I got to get out of here. I don't know if they're coming back," said the woman, who asked us not to reveal her name.
The student found the front door of her apartment kicked in when she came home from the USF library Wednesday night. It's thought at least two men broke in to her third floor unit at The Avenue apartments. The burglars turned the place upside down, stealing jewelry, a DVD player and other valuables.
They also took the most important thing in the student's world: Osita, a two-year-old Pomeranian.
"I've had her since she was a few weeks old, and everyone who knows me knows she's like my child," the woman said. "She goes everywhere with me except for school and work."
The woman isn't sure if the burglars took the dog, or if Osita ran away when the door was kicked in. She suspects the burglars took her, hoping to sell the animal.
Since the burglary, the victim has posted fliers around the apartment complex and nearby neighborhoods in hopes of finding her dog. She's now offering a $500 reward.
"If you bring her back to me, I won't ask any questions," she said. "I just want her back."
Anyone with information on Osita the dog is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 813-247-8000.
