TAMPA - The University of Tampa has purchased property along Kennedy Boulevard just west of campus for future construction.
This week, two UT-owned buildings including the former Olin Mott Tire Company at 1119 West Kennedy Boulevard and the former Complete Auto Remarketing Specialist building at 1107 West Kennedy Boulevard will be demolished.
The University said future plans and the timeline for construction are still in the planning stages. A media release also says any new construction will be consistent with the University of Tampa’s current design and standards and would add an appealing entry into downtown Tampa.
UT’s VP for Administration and Finance Rick Ogorek said in the release the University is working hard to not only keep up with student growth but maintain the neighborhood’s integrity.
“Whatever is built on those parcels will certainly be an improvement to the neighborhood and to the Kennedy Boulevard corridor,” Ogorek said. “And it will be of a size, scale and design to benefit UT students. We’re excited for what is to come.”
