MIAMI -

A tropical wave that has formed in the Atlantic Ocean is the next weather system to keep an eye on for the 2012 hurricane season.

The new tropical system, located between South America and Africa about 1,450 miles east of the Windward Islands, is producing disorganized showers and a few thunderstorms, the National Hurricane Center in Miami reported early Thursday.

Any development of the wave should be slow to occur as it moves generally west at 10 to 15 mph.  The system has only a 10 percent chance of becoming a tropical storm during the next 48 hours, according to the Hurricane Center.
