TAMPA - Chantal has weakened significantly but still remains a tropical storm, according to a report from a reconnaissance aircraft
On Tuesday, Chantal's winds had increased to 65 mph. Maximum sustained winds were down to 45 mph on Wednesday morning.
Warnings remain in effect for Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos and the southeastern Bahamas. A watch is in effect for the central Bahamas and Jamaica.
At 10 a.m., Chantal was centered about 235 miles south of Port Au Prince, Haiti. Movement was to the west.
Chantal is expected to degererate into a tropical depression or tropical wave within the next 24 hours.
