TAMPA - Its not exactly business as usual at the S and S Food Mart at 3318 Henderson in South Tampa.
Tampa Police say they are looking for two or three suspects responsible for a smash and grab attempt for the ATM inside early Wednesday morning, left the front of the store wide open. Glass everywhere, bricks toppled. Tampa police say unfortunately surveillance video from the store lacks the evidence police need to get a better idea of who did this.
"The video we have obtained up until this point does not show what we need it to show to say for sure say that someone backed into the business," says Tampa Police Department spokesperson Andrea Davis.
"According to a witness, that's what happened. But we need to know for sure."
ABC Action News talked to the store owner and he says the store was closed at the time, but he imagines they were only in his store for a couple of minutes. When they realized the ATM was bolted to the floor.
They bolted possibly heading just a mile down the road to the AT and T store at Dale Mabry and Henderson.
"The reason why they think they might be related is because the second business had a piece of concrete that looks like it may have come from the first business," says Davis.
As for the suspects who police are looking for, Davis had this to say.
"Committing a crime in general really makes you not a smart person but then you try it and you don't get anything. That tells you right there and they're facing some very serious charges and they didn't even get anything."
Police say they hope to obtain surveillance video from nearby businesses that may help identify who the suspects are.
