TAMPA - Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a call of a man who lost two fingers from fireworks.
They found James Lee Minyard, 41, with some form of black residue on his hand, and the top digits of his left middle and ring finger missing.
He was transported to Tampa General by Tampa Fire Rescue.
While searching the area, Tampa Police found a handmade improvised explosive device in the 900 block of E. Sligh Ave.
After clearing the area, the TPD Bomb Squad responded and took custody of the IED.
Minyard is undergoing surgery, and his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Charges are pending.
