Tampa man arrested for fatally stabbing girlfriend

TAMPA, Fla. - A Tampa man has been arrested for the stabbing death of his girlfriend.

Tampa Police say 52 year-old Kenneth Leroy Shivers stabbed his, girlfriend 48 year-old Gina Wanda Smith last night at her home on Chelsea Street.

"They say he stayed. He called 911 they came out. They said who did it and he said he did it. She was still alive they asked her and she confirmed it. She said he did it too," said Lensy Hardy, the victim's brother.

Family members drove Smith to Tampa General Hospital where she died.

The first officer on scene encountered Smith as he was leaving the home. Shivers was arrested without incident.

Her family says that Smith was a great mother to her three daughters.

 "She was nice, generous if she had it you could get it, you know," Hardy said.

Now family members are left to deal with the loss.

"Apparently it has not hit me yet. I still can't believe this has happened. But i know I am going to break down I just have not done it yet," he said.
