TAMPA - If you are flying in or out of Tampa International Airport between now and April 15, airport officials want you to arrive two hours before your plane departs.
Airport officials say the airport is actually busier during Spring Break than during Thanksgiving.
Just last Sunday, 53,384 passengers passed through the terminals at TIA. On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving 2011, only 50,849 passengers traveled through the airport. On an average day, the airport sees about 43,000 passengers.
One of the reasons for the increase in passengers, say airport officials, is that Southwest Airlines has added seven daily flights to its regular schedule in and out of Tampa.
Airport officials are adding TSA staffing at screening checkpoints to help with the increase in traffic, but they still say you should allow for longer than regular times in getting through security.
If you have not traveled in a while, airport officials remind you to take a few minutes to review the list of prohibited items located on the TSA website at http://www.TSA.gov .
