NEW YORK - Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defensive End Da'Quan Bowers was arrested Monday morning at LaGuardia Airport, after, police say, he was found with a .40 caliber handgun in his carry-on bag.
The 22-year-old Bowers was at a ticket counter in Terminal C when he voluntarily turned over a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun that was in his bag. He was booked on flight 2829 to Raleigh-Durham.
Meris Campbell, spokesperson for Queens District Attorney, said Bowers would have been charged with the same crime even if airport security discovered the weapon.
Bowers was charged with second degree weapon possession, and a court date has been set for April 25.
