TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay area will honor a fallen hero today and anyone can participate in honoring her memory. Army Specialist Brittany Gordon was killed by a bomb blast on October 13 in Kandahar, Afghanistan. She is believed to be the first woman from the bay area to die while fighting in Afghanistan. Gordon is the daughter of St. Petersburg Assistant Police Chief Cedric Gordon.

A plane carrying Army Spc. Gordon will arrive at Macdill Air Force Base at 11:15AM. An honor escort will transport her body from MacDill to Lawson Funeral Home in St. Petersburg. The public is invited to line the escort route in a show of support for Gordon and her family. Here is the route:

  • Depart MacDill AFB Bayshore Gate at approximately Noon
  • North on Bayshore Blvd.
  • East on Platt St. Bridge
  • North on Florida Ave. (Left)
  • East on Jackson St. (Right)
  • North on N. Jefferson St. (Left)
  • West on E. Polk St. (Left)
  • North on Ashley St. (Right)
  • Southbound I-275
  • Exit 23A (I-375)
  • Merge onto 4th Av N (to the right)
  • South on MLK Blvd. (Right)
  • West on 1st Ave N. - Passing St. Petersburg Police Department (Right)
  • South on N. 16th St. (Left)
  • West on Central Av (Right)
  • Ends at Lawson Funeral Home, 4535 Central Ave.
