HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - Hillsborough County Head Start/Early Head Start and the Kimmins Foundation hosted an open house to celebrate a recent program expansion Tuesday.
Kimmins Early Head Start started in 2000. At the time, they had just two classrooms. 24 infants and toddlers attended the program in the East Tampa/Ybor City area in space donated by the Kimmins Foundation.
Earlier this year, Hillsborough County secured an Early Head Start American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Expansion Grant for $8.6 million, the largest grant awarded in the State of Florida.
The Tampa area Head Start Program provides education, health, nutrition and family services to more than 250 infants from age 6 weeks to 3 years old, as well as to pregnant women of low-income families.
