TAMPA, Fla. - A Tampa firefighter was pulled from a hole in a roof during a house fire by a fellow firefighter on Sunday morning.
According to Tampa Fire-Rescue spokesperson Cpt. Lonnie Benniefield, a crew of firefighters was on the roof of a house at 4209 West Bay View Avenue in South Tampa attempting to cut a hole and contain the fire when a male firefighter began to fall through around 10:05 a.m.
"The firefighter fell through the hole, up to his arms," Benniefield said, "but .... his fire captain ... grabbed him before he fell all the way through the roof and ceiling of the house."
The firefighter sustained a burn to his hand and was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment. He was not identified.
No one was at home at the time of the fire, including homeowner Kristina Meyer, and no other injuries were reported.
The fire was brought under control by 10:23 a.m.
