TAMPA - The lockdown placed on Warton High School has been lifted after rumors of student carrying a weapon shut the school down.

According to school board officials, the school went on lockdown at 1:40 p.m., after a student said he saw another student with a weapon in the boy’s bathroom.

The accused student was quickly found and searched, but no weapon was found.

Officials then used a hand-held metal detector on students in the suspect’s classroom as a safety measure. No weapons were found on students, in trash cans or any lockers.

The students were dismissed 15 minutes late until officials could confirm that no weapon was present. The lock down lasted 90 minutes.
