TAMPA - A line of strong thunderstorms rumbled through the area early Tuesday evening. A waterspout formed in the bay and was seen by motorists on and near the Gandy Bridge.
The National Weather Service came close to issuing a Tornado Warning for the Gandy bridge, but forecasters finally determined the waterspout was going to dissipate.
The waterspout was over the water for about 15 minutes.
Some 5,000 electric customers experienced power interruptions in Pinellas County as a result of the thunderstorms. Power lines were downed and at least several vehicles were damaged.
The storms bubbled up starting around 6:45 p.m.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Pinellas County. It expired at 7:45 p.m.
There were no reports of injuries.
Around 8:30 p.m., Titan Radar showed the storms moving west into the Gulf.
