TAMPA - Police chased a driver through two counties on Friday morning and used a stun gun on him before taking him into custody.

An officer tried to stop a white Hyundai, believed to be stolen, at Broadway Avenue and Orient Road at around 4:30 a.m. The driver took off and officers pursued the car into Lakeland, police said.

The car eventually stopped at Sleepy Hill Road and Kathleen Road. Jeffery Smith, 44, resisted arrest and officers used a stun gun on him, police said.

Smith was wanted on a federal firearms warrant and had drugs inside the car, authorities said. He faces grand theft auto, drug and resisting arrest charges.
