TAMPA - A preliminary finding by the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office indicates the injuries that killed a bicyclist on West Waters Avenue last weekend are not consistent with a hit-and-run crash.
According to an earlier report from the Tampa Police Department, 55-year-old Michael Swanson was riding his bicycle southbound across West Waters and crossed into the eastbound lanes around 5 :40 p.m. Sunday.
A vehicle hit or grazed Swanson, who fell. He got up and pushed his bike to the side of the road and then collapsed.
He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A suspect vehicle described as a red 4-door sedan was seen heading away from the area.
According to a new statement, "The Tampa Police Department is waiting for the results of the autopsy and a final ruling from the M.E. to determine if the case is a homicide."
Anyone with information is asked to call Tampa Police or Crime Stoppers 1-800-873-TIPS or report online at www.crimestopperstb.com.
