TAMPA - A female pedestrian was struck and killed on Hillsborough Avenue near 40th Street Tuesday morning.
Police say Claudia McFarlane, 56, of Tampa, was wearing dark clothing when she tried to cross six lanes of traffic around 6:20 a.m.
The driver of a 1999 Ford Expedition, Persylvia Singleton, 50, of Tampa, did not see McFarlane and struck her. McFarlane was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say it appears the driver was not at fault.
Westbound Hillsborough was closed at 40th and reopened around 9 a.m.
