TAMPA - An Atlantic City police officer was killed in a car crash in Tampa early this morning, according to the Associated Press.
Officer Michael Warnsher, 34, who lives in nearby Egg Harbor Township, was inside a car heading south on I-275 exiting around 2:40 a.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the driver lost control as the car was exiting onto Lois Avenue and swerved onto a grassy embankment and overturned.
Warnsher died at the scene. Another occupant, 32-year-old Jason Pittaro, suffered minor injuries.
Troopers aren’t sure which one was driving the car.
Deputy Police Chief Ernest Jubilee says the department is in shock. Wamsher, an 11-year veteran of the department, was well-liked and respected, he added.
