TAMPA - A Tampa mother is accused of manslaughter after leaving her 7-month-old child unattended in a bath tub while she met with a salesman, according to a sheriff's statement.
Investigators say Sierra McMillan, 22, placed the child in a bathtub on Sunday afternoon and began running the water.
She then left to answer the door for a solicitor, who later told deputies he could hear the infant crying. He said the infant stopped crying after a few minutes.
About 15 to 20 minutes later, McMillan went to the bathroom and turned off the water. When she returned, he said her arms and the front of her shirt were wet, according to the witness.
McMillan then asked the solicitor to leave and come back another time.
After leaving, the solicitor saw emergency personnel and deputies going to the apartment and then leaving with the infant. He decided to tell deputies what he had witnessed.
The Medical Examiner determined that the child died of drowning caused by being left unattended.
McMillan was arrested on Monday and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, according to jail records.
