HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - Charlie Beale has lived in his home since 2007; unfortunately, it hasn't felt much like a home.
"I can barely stay here," he says in disgust. "I haven't had piece of mind since I moved in here."
He and dozens of homeowners in the Palm River community feel the exact same way. They say its all because of shoddy building that KB Homes is responsible for. The residents say they are dealing with mold, water coming from the walls and multiple other issues that the home builder simply hasn't fixed.
The walls in his home literally have moisture collecting in them. He says the builder came to "fix" the problem, but instead just temporarily taped the issue that has lingered for about a year now.
"I keep re-taping it, just to make sure its [ok],... there is so much moisture that's getting behind there that the tape just kind of pulls away from the wall."
Beale is just another resident taking a number. He and his neighbors are dealing with the same issues the homeowners in the Willowbrook community in Manatee County say they have been dealing with for years as well. The consensus is, when they call KB, they claim the home builder tells them they will head out to their town homes to evaluate the situation. If they do actually show up, they say they never fix the issue completely.
In an email sent to ABC Action News today, Senior Director of Corporate Communications Cara Kane said, "KB Home is actively making repairs to a few homes in the Palm River community in units where the residents have contacted us with concerns. We continue to address each of our homeowners individual claims, and are working with them to make the necessary repairs. ”
There were contractors on site repairing the side of one of the buildings in Palm River on Thursday morning, but homeowners say that's what happens. But when they left, there was just a plastic cover over the wall they had pulled apart. Leaving visible the insulation from the house. When homeowners saw the quick fix, they replied, "We're not surprised."
