Mom arrested for allegedly leaving baby in apartment with pot on stove

TAMPA - A Tampa woman was arrested Saturday for leaving a 1-year-old home alone while a pot burned on the stove, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office release.

Fire Rescue responded to 19-year-old Barbara Davis’ apartment on 17 ^th St. for what appeared to be an apartment fire.

But officials learned that it was actually smoke coming from the apartment’s kitchen.

Davis had left a pot of something cooking on the stove. She got into an argument with someone and left the apartment to continue the confrontation while to pot began to burn. The apartment filled with heavy smoke, officials said.

The child was left alone for a half hour. Davis was arrested for child neglect.
