Man shot and killed while sitting in his car, according to Tampa Police Department

TAMPA - A 20-year-old man lost his life after he was shot while sitting in his car at an apartment complex, according to investigators.

Tampa police say it happened Saturday around 9:30 p.m. when Derrick J. Dixon drove to the River Oaks Apartments, located at 6706 Shadeville Lane, to drop off a friend.

According to reports, an unknown person approached the vehicle and fired several shots at the victim.

Investigators say the victim attempted to flee the scene in his car, but passed away from his wounds a short distance away.

Neither the victim nor any suspects have been named at this time.
