TAMPA - Small businesses across the country are ready for "Small Business Saturday," a day for people to buy holiday gifts at local shops and businesses.
Small Business Saturday, sponsored by American Express, is always sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. While those two shopping days feature big retail and online shopping, Small Business Saturday is designed to encourage holiday shoppers to support locally-owned stores.
Pete Bossler, the owner of Rudely Elegant in Ybor City, says a lot of people discovered his business when they stopped in for the event Trying to get people to shop local last year.
According to American Express, last year, more than 100 million shoppers came out to shop at locally-owned businesses during Small Business Saturday.
