THE VILLAGES, Fla. - It's been a war of words in Florida, and if Monday night’s polls are right, many voters have already decided who they will stand behind.
Mitt Romney serenaded his crowd of supporters with “America the Beautiful” in a rally a little less than 15 minutes and mostly attack free.
“Thank you for all your help, I need your vote tomorrow,” Romney said at the rally.
His tone was very different from the one displayed just hours earlier at two other Florida stops, including Dunedin.
His harshest attacks were aimed at his republican rival Newt Gingrich.
“Speaker Gingrich... He's not feeling too excited these days... I know, it's sad,” Romney said earlier Monday at a Florida stop.
But Gingrich had his own words for Romney.
“Tells you how out of touch with honesty Mitt Romney is,” he said.
That back and forth continued just as many polls in Florida revealed a double digit lead for Romney ahead of Gingrich.
Both Rick Santorum and Ron Paul continue to fall further behind.
Though Gingrich said he will be in Tampa and vowed to continue all the way to the party's convention, what happens on Tuesday could make the difference.
“Forty percent of us Americans are independents… and us independent women, we're supporting Romney,” said Debbie Testement.
Monday night, various polls also showed Romney as the top pick among Hispanic voters in Florida as well as seniors.
He will spend Tuesday in Tampa. Newt Gingrich will spend primary day in Orlando.
